Vintage & Modern Toy Fair has a simple focus, and it’s right there in the name. Whether you collect toys from 50 years ago or are chasing the latest release you will find something of interest at our fairs.  Our dealers are all independent sellers, some may have a small business selling toys, but most are just individual collectors like you who wish to thin out their surplus toys once in a while. We welcome all types of sellers and always aim to provide fresh stock and new faces at every fair. We operate by charging a fee to sellers to have a table at the fair, and a small entry fee to the public to attend on the day. We don’t own the stock that is for sale at the show, so it’s always a mystery and surprise what our sellers turn up with! If you have any interest in the toys of your childhood or the world of popular culture then this is the show for you.

Vintage & Modern Toy Fair began in Melbourne in 2019 when three friends who had collected, bought and sold toys for more than 30 years decided to create a new opportunity for dealers and collectors to come together to buy and sell, whilst building a community based on our shared love of old and new toys. We pride ourselves on hosting a fun, relaxed and welcoming event, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Events are held regularly at Malvern Town Hall and in 2023 the team launched the Giant Size Vintage & Modern Toy Fair that was held at Caulfield Racecourse. This show offered more than double the number of dealers and tables than the Malvern Show. In 2024 the Vintage & Modern Toy Fair was held twice at Caulfield Racecourse and three times at Malvern Town Hall. After a reconciliation of sales vs inventory post yesterday’s fair, we’ve achieved our goal of selling down our collection. As such yesterday was our last VMTF as a vendor.

We had a cracker of a day yesterday, on par with our previous best result which coincidentally was the very first fair we attended post lockdown.

What a fantastic ride it has been!

We just wanted to let you know our experience with VMTF has been superb. The organisation and execution are second to none-its seamless and all things considered stress free.

We’ll miss the vendor community and camaraderie, but our absence will now be someone else’s gain given the ‘water-wheel’ nature of what you have created.

Our showrunners, Andrew and Will, started Vintage & Modern Toy Fair in 2019 with the intention of providing a focused event for toy and pop culture collectors, bringing together buyers and sellers in a comfortable and relaxed setting.

Andrew has been retailing the latest action figures for more than 30 years, starting with a mail-order business and later expanding to shopfronts and online with Pop Toys. He has a background in accounting and is an active collector of action figures, movie posters, VHS and DVDs.

Will has an events and publications background in the University sector, and has been collecting Australian-related toys and ephemera since the late 1980s. He loves talking toys and collectibles, showcasing his collection at Instagram and appearing as a regular guest on ABC Radio Melbourne Evenings with David Astle.
